lighting blog task

1) Still image analysis  


- within the image, low key lighting is utilised when depicting the main character in shadow as the left side of the face is in-cased in shadow as well as the large amount of contrast there is from the background
- the lighting source primarily comes from the left with partial top lighting 
- with the use of lighting, the smoke is accentuated as it is fully lit and is very prominent within the scene  

- the image uses low key lighting as there is a very large amount of contrast created in which you can only see the subjects face 
- the lighting source come from the left side of the image and with a considerable amount of top lighting
- the effect created by lighting in the image is extremely high contrast due to the large majority of the image being covered in darkness


- the image scene has high key lighting due to the character being well lit with a good amount of detail showing as well as not a primary focus on contrast being shown
- there is key lighting coming from the top of the character due to the shadows created under the eyes, nose, hood, neck and arms
- the effect of the character being somewhat negative is created as the lighting portrays shadows in places which would make the character seem angry


- the image uses low key lighting as there is a large quantity of shadows on the subject in the foreground as well as background#
- there is top lighting to the image as the light source highlights the top of the character whilst the bottom is encased in darkness
- the lighting effect is the the rain is pronounced the to lighting reflected on each droplet


- the image utilises high key lighting as the subject is portrayed in light with a lot of detail and medium amount of contrast
- there is a front stage light however there is a person or entity obstructing part of the lighting to create a shadow on the character
- the effect is that as a silhouette is created on the subject; in combination with stance and expression, you would assume that they are being confronted by an evil  figure 


- within the image a combination of low key and high key lighting is used due to the shadows produced and clarity on the characters faces
- there is significant stage lighting coming from the right side through the blinds
- a dramatic effect is created as the lighting comes through the blinds 


- the image uses uses low key lighting due to the lack of clarity and prominent shadows created upfront
- the image uses back lighting as the main theme and source for the scene
- this creates the effect that the characters have just came from something significant


- the image uses low key lighting as the is a prominent shadow created behind the subjects face
- there is stage lighting used at the right side of the subjects face with a wall behind to create shadow
-  as a result of this drama and a sense of confrontation is created additionally in combination with character positioning and expression 


- high key lighting is used due to the brightness and clarity of the image
- the image contains top lighting as the top if the subject is well lit whilst below the neck is in shadow
- this creates the effect that something positive is occurring due to it being bright as well as having a light source from the top


- low key lighting is used due to the excessive amounts of shadows
- there is back lighting as a silhouette is created upon the character
- this creates tension within the scene due to the character being elevated and in shadow


- high key lighting is used as there is a lot of clarity and brightness within the scene 
- there is elements of front lighting as well as under lighting 
- this effect highlights the characters and separates them from the background   

2) Film noir research 

film noir, (French: “dark film”) style of film making characterised by such elements as cynical heroes, stark lighting effects, frequent use of flashbacks, intricate plots, and an underlying existentialist philosophy. The genre was prevalent mostly in American crime dramas of the post-World War II era.

  4. Low-angle lighting

3) Film noir YouTube clip analysis 


the film noir genre fits this scene as:
- there is a female lead
- there is low key lighting within the bar
- high contrast of shadows 
- top lighting
